UFC+BettingMatt Serra vs. Chris Lytle: UFC 119 Preview
Posted by MMAmonk in Sep 23, 2010, under UFC
Matt Serra and Chris Lytle are scheduled to face off at UFC 119. Each of these fighters is a solid competitor and should be exciting to watch on the 25th of September. The fight will take place in Indiana for the first time in UFC history.
Lytle is listed as the UFC odds favorite at -150 while Serra pays +120.
This match will be exciting because it is a rematch of a past matchup that took place. These two fighters once crossed paths 4 years ago this November. They were each looking to find their break by vying to be the champion of “The Ultimate Fighter 4.” Unfortunately only one could win and Lytle was not able to hang on.
Sera won and went on to fight for the title. He was able to win his title bout, but he quickly lost it in a rematch. Sera has been fighting to stay near the top of the game ever since. This fight will be important if he hopes to continue to be talked about as one of the top fighters in the sport.
Lytle has fought more than 50 fights as a pro and has managed to win 29. He definitely has the tools to win, but to this point he has not found the consistency that is typical of the best fighters in the world. He has won his last 3 matches however and it appears that he is on his way towards the best fighting of his career.
The last match that Lytle fought in had everyone talking. He put his opponent into submission in impressive fashion. Many people are saying he looked better than he ever has to this point.
Demian Maia vs. Mario Miranda: UFC 118 Betting
Posted by MMAmonk in Aug 28, 2010, under UFC
Demian Maia will be taking the ring against Mario Miranda at UFC 118. These two fighters will square off in an event that will take place on the main card for the upcoming event. These two fighters will be a big part of what should be an exciting main card for the upcoming event.
Maia will clearly have some advantages in this match for reasons surrounding his level of experience. The truth is that Maia has only fought 3 more matches in his career than Mario Miranda has.
Despite the fact that there is only a three fights difference, there is a very big difference in the number of fights that he has taken on in the UFC. Demian Maia will be entering the match for his 9th fight of his UFC career. Meanwhile Miranda will be fighting in the UFC for just his 3rd time.
Miranda has only lost one fight in his professional career. This sounds impressive, but he has dropped one of his two matches that he has fought in during his time in the UFC. This is quite common for fighters to join the UFC and then receive a rude awakening once they arrive. The competition in the UFC is extremely high. Oftentimes fighters are weeded out quickly.
Although he has experience, that does not mean he is guaranteed a victory. Miranda has shown flashes of brilliance in his fighting and he can certainly make some noise in the ring when the time comes for them to square off during this main card fight.
Randy Couture vs. James Toney UFC 118 Betting Preview
Posted by MMAmonk in Aug 27, 2010, under UFC
Randy Couture and James Toney will square off shortly in a great matchup. These two fighters will take on each other at the upcoming UFC 118 event. These fighters will make up part of a highly anticipated main event card and will bring a lot of excitement to the table as they square off.
Toney is truly a wildcard in this matchup. It is no secret that James Toney has fighting skills, but nobody knows what he will do when the time comes for his mixed martial arts debut. Toney is a championship caliber boxer that truly can bring the power. He has agreed to take on Couture to show what his sport is made of.
This fight will be a sort of exhibit in comparing the respective fighting abilities of top competitors in different fighting styles. These two fighters will help us get an idea as to what type of toughness and competition are present in the boxing and ultimate fighting rings.
The key for Randy Couture will clearly be to get the fight to the ground. It is no secret that Toney can box, so the key will be to test his skills on the mat. If Couture can get the fight to become more of a wrestling match than a slug fest he may be able to take the advantage.
In a worst case scenario this will be a fight that inspires a lot of excitement and entertainment as we see what type of guts some of the top fighters in each type have. This is one that everyone should tune into when the time comes.
Frankie Edgar vs. B.J. Penn UFC 118 Fight Preview
Posted by MMAmonk in Aug 26, 2010, under UFC
Frankie Edgar will try to keep a hold on his championship at the upcoming UFC 118 event. Edgar will be put to the limits as he takes on B.J. Penn.
These two fighters have recently squared off. Neither of these two has fought another fighter since their last matchup in which the championship was decided. This matchup was excruciatingly close and provided nail biting entertainment. This match was extremely close and was decided only by decision in the end.
This fight was close, but many people wonder what happened to Penn during this matchup. Many experts have commented that Penn was much less than his usual self during the match. Penn is known for his tremendous skills and power. He simply did not put these abilities on display during their last match. The question is whether he didn’t put these skills on display because he was underequipped to take on Edgar, or if he did not put on a good show because he was simply not all there.
The key and question regarding this fight will be surrounding B.J. Penn. Will Penn show up for this fight, or will he leave us all wanting more when the time comes for the fight to start. If Penn shows up he will have an excellent chance of taking the championship title for himself.
That being said, even if Penn is at his best he will not be guaranteed a victory. Frankie Edgar is a great fighter and will have an opportunity to establish himself as a great champion if he can fend off Penn at UFC 118.

Chris Leben vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama UFC 116 Preview
Posted by MMAmonk in Jun 30, 2010, under UFC
Chris Leben will fight against Yoshihiro Akiyama at the upcoming UFC 116 event on July 3rd. Chris Leben was recently chosen to sub in for Wanderlei Silva, the original fighter scheduled to take on Akiyama.
Akiyama is heavily favored in UFC 116 odds at -205 while Leben pays -165.
Silva and Akiyama were going to take part in a highly anticipated matchup, but their battle will have to wait even longer if they are to take on each other. Silva sustained a tear in his ACL and also broke three ribs in training.
Leben will come in with some momentum in the upcoming match. Just recently he took on Aaron Simpson on The Ultimate Fighter 11 and knocked him out. Days later he was slated in to take part in this match.
Akiyama will still go ahead with the fight despite threats to not take part in the bout. Akiyama has been on the sidelines of the ring for over a year and will come back against Leben. He has not fought a match and lost for more than 5 years and will have the opportunity to lengthen his streak. He is very good with his Judo and submission technique and he also has the ability to knock his opponent out.
Leben has a 20-6 career record and is known as “The Crippler” for his great knockout power. He has the ability to take a hit, but he will need to keep the match off of the ground if he hopes to take this one from Akiyama. This fight figures to be a solid matchup between these competitors.
Bellator 22 Betting Lines
Posted by MMAmonk in Jun 17, 2010, under Bellator
Bellator 22 goes tonight with welterweights Dan Hornbuckle and Ben Askren headlining the MMA betting card.
betED has Bellator betting lines for the five main fights.
Dan “The Handler” Hornbuckle (-150) vs. Ben “Funky” Askren (+120)
Experience trumps youth, but don’t count out Askren. He has a stronger ground game so if these fighters go strength against strength, Askren will probably come out ahead. If Hornbuckle can keep the fight a striking affair, he should win.
Dan Hornbuckle vs Ben Askren Preview
Cole “King” Konrad (-1200) vs. John Orr
(+600)
Neither of these heavyweight fighters are particularly experienced so I would never bet on Konrad at -1200. If you have to bet on this one, take Orr. You’ll probably lose, but at least you have a chance of making some good money.
Lisa Ward (-340) vs. Stephanie “Macaquinha” Frausto (+260)
Ward is a well-travelled MMA veteran still in her prime while Frausto is inexperienced and has only fought lower-caliber fighters. Ward could be ripe for an upset as she hasn’t fought in awhile while Frausto already has three fights this year.
Jarrod “The Wild Card” Card (-450) vs. Jose Vega (+300)
Card is a rising star at featherweight who has beaten a variety of quality opponents. Vega can fight on the ground, but Card can just plain fight. At -450 I’d stay away from this fight. It’s not worth betting on the favorite, but I can’t really see an upset coming either.

Pat Curran scored a decision victory over Toby Imada at Bellator 21 to put him first in line to challenge Eddie Alvarez for the Bellator lightweight championship belt.
Los Angeles Strikeforce: Renato Sobral vs Robbie Lawler
Posted by MMAmonk in Jun 15, 2010, under Strikeforce
Los Angeles: Strikeforce Live features Renato Sobral and Robbie Lawler in a quality matchup for the Strikeforce organization.
The fight will be a battle between two different styles that will be determined by who can control the where the fight takes place.
Robbie Lawler is a striker who is going to want to stay on his feet. Out of his 17 wins, 14 have come by knock out in one form or another, so you know he packs power.
Lawler struggled in his brief stint with the UFC, but he seems to have improved since that time picking up a number of knock out victories against quality fighters of late.
Renato “Babalu” Sobral is a submission specialist. He rarely wins by knockout, but 18 of his 35 victories have come by submission.
At 34, Babalu is definitely on the downside of his career, but Mirko Cro Cop showed us at UFC 115 that an old submission specialist can still be dangerous even as Chuck Liddell showed that there is definitely at time where a fighter should call it quits.
If Babalu can get the fight on the ground, this could end very quickly. The edge has to go to Lawler however, because the fighters start where he wants to be, on his feet.
